LDRRMOs prepare for MSAR Olympics through proficiency training

Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (LDRRMOs) of South Cotabato underwent through a proficiency training on basic ropemanship and rappelling last March 14 to 15 to prepare for the rigorous Mountain Search and Rescue (MOSAR) Training and this year’s Search and Rescue Olympics.
“Prior to the Olympics, we need to equip the DRRMCs along MOSAR. Prior to MOSAR, basic ropemanship and rappelling is a requisite,” said PDRRM Officer Milagros Rivera-Lorca.
Lorca said DRRMOs have to undergo the said training to participate in the MOSAR training with their respective SAR team leaders and qualify for the SAR Olympics this year.
“Our SAR Olympics this year is MOSAR, a notch higher than our previous Olympics that’s more on river crossing and high-line,” Lorca said.
This MOSAR training is a part of the PDRRMCs compliance of RA 10121 or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010, Sec. 12 (14) which states that LDRRMCs should “take all necessary steps on a continuing basis to maintain, provide or arrange the provision of, or to otherwise make available, suitably trained and competent personnel for effective civil defence and disaster risk reduction management.”
The MOSAR training is slated to be conducted this second semester of the year.
