LGUs extend support to Nat’l Clean-up Drive

CITY OF KORONADAL — Local Government Units (LGUs) will conduct their respective clean-up drive as a gesture of their cooperation and support to the National Clean-up Drive spearheaded by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environment Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) slated April 22 (Saturday) in celebration of Earth Day with its theme “Bayan Ko, Linis Ko.”

This was the consensus among City and Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers (C/MENROs) during the regular monthly meeting of the Provincial League of Environment and Natural Resources Officers (PLENRO) – South Cotabato held at the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office here.

LGUs which signified their intention to participate in the April 22 clean-up drive were Sto. Nino, Polomolok, Tampakan, Tampakan and Koronadal City, which committed to clean their respective public places such as roadside, public terminal, plaza and park, municipal hall, among others, except for Tampakan which will conduct tree-planting activities only in selected barangays in and the clean-up drive scheduled a week after.

Meanwhile, Tantangan, Surallah, Lake Sebu, Banga and T’boli LGUs will conduct their clean-up today, April 21 (Friday).

Supervising Environment Management Specialist Elbe Balucanag, chief of the Provincial Environment Management Office – Environment Management Division, meanwhile disclosed that the provincial government issued a memorandum to all department heads to conduct clean-up in their respective office and premises today in support to the national clean-up drive.

Earlier during the meeting, DENR-EMB 12 Basura Patroller Maruwah Baito discussed the findings of their Basura Patrol Program particularly violations committed by some Barangay LGUs as well as their compliance to Republic Act 9003 or otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
